Griffin was owned by the RORC and was sunk in the 1979 Fastnet race. She was capsized in the early hours of 14th August and remained upside down until another breaking wave righted her. During the capsize the washboards fell out and so much water came in that she began to sink. The seven crew abandoned into a liferaft and were later rescued by the French yacht Lorelei. Griffin was seen to sink by them and was never seen again
